Ebay Love

I got a little slap happy when I discovered this incredible store filled with millions of resin cabochon flowers and birds. I went crazy and bid on pretty much everything amazing, which is basically everything! So now, I have tons of cute little trinkets coming my way, of which I plan to turn into earrings. I'll be churning these bad boys out like hot cakes...stay tuned!

Fab Fall

Hi all,
Its fall! Falling into fall, fab fall, fall favorite...however you want to say it, its officially that time of year. I love fall, but hate winter. I like fall because its a good excuse to be cozy (aka lazy) inside and snuggle up, without feeling guilty about not being outside. This long weekend, we have some falltastic plans in store (courtesy of Chris and his always flowing ideas). Some things on the list are to mull (then spike?) some cider, go for hike, cook a hearty meal, and squeeze in a little crafty craft. I'm going to attempt to make these crazy little candle holder, before I drink the spiked cider of course.

                               How crazy are these?

This is the recipe I'm going for, sounds feisty, I love it.

 Mulled Cider:
2 quarts apple cider (8 cups)
12 oz. spiced rum
4 strips lemon zest
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole star anise
1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
1 teaspoon whole cloves
Heat all ingredients in a saucepan and strain into warmed mug.
Serves 8

Badda Bing, Badda Boom

Happy Friday!
Ay marron, what a week. Work has taken center stage and has been quite the little diva this week, keeping me chained to my desk by day and collapsed on my couch by night. Our nightly routine has become a sea of strippers, illegal gambling, and shady murders - aka, we've started The Sopranos on Netflix. There are definitely some similarities between Tony and his family and my own...organized crime, dirty money, you know. I kid I kid. I'm referring more to the Italian family equipped with fab recipes, old world sayings, and the quintessential Nona. That's right ladies and gentlemen, my little old Italian grandmother could have been an extra on The Sopranos. Here's a pic of the little lady on her 91th birthday bash.
And what goes perfectly with an Italian mob drama? Why, Nona's eggplant zucchini sauce, that's what. You could eat this sauce alone, its so good. And with eggplant in season and fall approaching, now is the time to make this hearty sauce and enjoy, freezing some for future cravings of course. Its simple, relatively quick, and just not that bad for you! So I like to tell myself anyways. I substitute ground turkey for the beef and use whole wheat pasta and light mozzarella.  For those veggie heads out there, it's just as good minus the meat! Here is the recipe, I die for this sauce, and you will too. Enjoy!

1 large eggplant
2 good sized zucchini
2 28oz cans Pastene ground peeled kitchen ready tomatoes
1+ pound hamburg (or turkey)
2 - 4 cloves garlic minced
1/3 olive oil
basil (fresh if you can)
salt and pepper

Peel eggplant and zucchini. Dice small.
Heat 1/3 cup olive oil (or more if needed) in pot. Add minced garlic and chopped vegetables.  Cook until mushy.  Add tomatoes, salt, pepper and basil.  Simmer for at least an hour partially covered.  Stir frequently.  Add browned, drained hamburg.  Cook for 1/2 hour more.

Add mozzarella and romano before serving.

This makes enough for 2 pounds of pasta.

Until next time blog heads,

Weekend Wonders

Greetings! Welcome to E to Z, my little blog . This here is the first post, so the pressure is on. And as we sit here on this fine Sunday eve, gearing up for yet another week of 9 to 5, mourning the end of True Blood and Curb, most of us are cruising the web while watching tv, looking for something to peek our interest. Here is my attempt to not only catch your eye, but keep you coming back for more. So without further adieu... Weekend Wonders.

With the cooler weather, I was feeling the urge to get down and crafty. So, with a bucket of beads in my closet, I got down to business. I like to think I'm better at making jewelry than I actually am, but that doesn't stop me! I love playing with the colors and creating something myself. I have a recent obsession with ombre, and have beeen wanting to try my hand at an ombre necklace with various shades of turquoise. I'm actually pretty proud of the result! I found some great gold flat square and circle beads I had forgotten about, and decided to put them as a small center between the turquoise. I was so pleased with the results, I even wore it out Saturday night!  Here are some pics of the result.
I hope everyone had a fab weekend, and thanks for checking out zee first post!
Until next time, Elyse
